“I love you,” he said.
Out loud.
It’s been six months since I’ve heard those three words.
“You are my love,” he said.
Spoken. Overheard.
I stood still. Listening.
“I love you,” he said.
Out loud.
Not to me. But to her.

There’s a group of writers I started following on Facebook…Yeah Write.
So I thought, yeah, I’ll write. And came up with this.
A microstory, a gargleblaster, a short story of exactly 42 words.

Gut-wrenchingly beautiful. Powerful. They say you write what you know. That sucks. 🙂

Hi, Blogdramedy, and welcome to yeah write! This is a lovely little poem. I like the way the repetition in the first and third stanzas made it feel like time had stopped, like it does, when we suffer this kind of shock. Nicely done.

The last line made me shed a tear. But truth is better than fake comfort. Well done.

Always. Unless that fake comfort comes in the form of chocolate. I could chow down to that. *grin*

I’ve done some of my best writing when others impose a limit on the number of words I can use.
I see I’m not alone.
Eloquent piece.

Love your staccato sentences and the sharp turn the third stanza takes. Awesome. –G

Well, sometimes when life takes a turn in an unexpected direction, it turns out ultimately to be better than the old one. 🙂
